The Hospital is a 50+ bed acute-care facility; the only hospital in the county, it has a primary service area of approximately 28,000 county residents and a secondary market from surrounding counties accounting for an additional 15,000. The hospital has a 24-hour physician staffed Emergency Room. Hospital services include cardiac rehabilitation, critical care unit, radiology services, including nuclear medicine and MRI, pharmacy, physical therapy, home health, dietary and nutrition counseling, and around-the clock pathology and laboratory services. Medical staff specialties include anesthesiology, cardiology, obstetrics/gynecology, internal medicine, radiology, urology, podiatry, neurology, family practice, general dentistry and a surgery department offering general, orthopedic and neurosurgery.
The Community
With a population of approximately 28,000, there is a multitude of social activities. Several community parks and the 4-H Fairgrounds support many family and club activities. Other notable calendar events include a number of annual festivals and community activities. Professional and college sports are a short drive away in nearby family friendly communities. Three public school corporations serve the area. Continuing education programs are also offered to students and adults. Private elementary and secondary schools are available, including home-based and alternate programs, church schools, and a college-prep high school for students in the 9-l2th grades. Postsecondary education and training offered by several local colleges and major universities are within a few hours' drive. Recreation
People of all ages, especially water sport enthusiasts, can enjoy recreational opportunities in and around this area. A large natural lake and offers swimming, boating, water skiing and 66 Class A camping sites. A nearby Fish and Wildlife Area has over 4,000 acres of woods, marshes and wetlands at the confluence of the two rivers. There is an abundance of sightseeing, picnicking and birdwatching as well as fishing for bass, bluegill, catfish, pike, and walleye along miles of riverfront.. Hunting opportunities include deer, squirrel, raccoon, dove, upland game, and waterfowl hunts. A 58-acre wetland conservation area and local state park offers some of the best canoeing in the lower Midwest, and during the winter, cross-country skiing is big fun in the park. There are also cultural arts programs, hiking trails, fishing and picnic shelters. The area has three 18-hole public golf courses.
