Community is nestled comfortably in the picturesque hills of the Chattahooche River Valley. The facility is a licensed 74-bed, acute care hospital with a level II emergency department. The emergency department is staffed seven days a week, 24-hours-a-day, with duly licensed medical physicians. This department consists of six examination rooms (two designated for major trauma) and is equipped to offer emergency health care services to patients of all ages. The emergency department primarily handles: orthopedic emergencies, trauma, acute MI, COPD and other medical emergencies. On average, the emergency department treats approximately 12,000 patients a year with the summer months generating a myriad of injuries resulting from water and other sports-related accidents. The facility was built in 1954 and is deemed a sole community provider. Throughout the years, this facility has gone through numerous additions, renovations and other improvements. The most recent upgrade was the construction of a new emergency department and new surgery department in 1998, plus the addition of an MRI suite in 1999. In addition to the 24-hour emergency room services, the hospital offers a wide range of other inpatient and outpatient services, including: a four-bed intensive care unit, respiratory therapy, physical therapy and inpatient and outpatient surgery. The availability of specialized diagnostic equipment and trained personnel further compliment the services offered by LCH. Additional services include: a wide range of laboratory services, blood bank, pathology, diagnostic radiology, spiral CT scanner, open face MRI, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, mammography and bone density studies. In addition to our acute care departments, the hospital offers social services, outpatient geriatric psychiatric care, home health care, nutritional counseling and a rural health clinic for the southern part of the county. Its staff continually strive to provide the community with the best quality care available, making our hospital the one of choice. THE COMMUNITY continues to attract businesses and industries to this area for all the same reasons that settlers came in the 1800s. Pleased to have many manufacturers and industries select this area as their choice to further develop their businesses. The small-town atmosphere is complimented by the progressive nature of the chamber of commerce in recruiting new industry and looking for opportunities to keep our community technologically competitive. The community is strategically located for those who need cultural diversity.
